Scoliosis surgery, also known as reconstructive surgery, is a type of spinal surgery designed to treat patients who have curvature of the spine. Scoliosis generally occurs from a young age as children grow or occurs later in life because of wear and tear or trauma.

The goal of the surgeon is to restore the normal curvature of the spine. Your spine normally has an S-shaped curve and functions in miraculous ways! When the curve is lined up correctly a patient is considered to be in good alignment. The alignment that people need is in all three planes of access and when these line up correctly one is in “good sagittal balance.” If the spine becomes misaligned or the curvature is not correct, pain and posture disorders may result. These do not always require surgery and can sometimes be managed with bracing or therapy, but in many cases, surgical treatments are required. There are physicians at Precision Spine Care who have expertise in scoliosis and degenerative surgery. Talk to your practitioner if you or a loved one are suffering from scoliosis.
