About Precision Spine Care

The bad news is that four out of five Americans will have an attack of back or neck pain during their lifetime. If you have a back pain attack, you are also four times more likely to have a recurrence. Other people can suffer from a variety of pain symptoms that require a high level of specialist care to diagnose what may be causing the pain symptom, and then how to treat the problem to relieve the symptoms.

Sadly, those with back or neck pain problems, and those with a other complex pain syndromes, may have to navigate a very fragmented health system, going to one location to see a physician specialist, another location for diagnostic tests, a third location for therapy, another location for surgery, or another pharmacy location to pick up a prescription.

Within the field of spine care, for example, some patients need ongoing treatment for pain symptoms which would otherwise require a spine center to refer out the patient to another group that specializes in complex pain management.

The good news is that as of January 1, 2014, three specialty groups — Precision Spine Care, Dr. Jonathan Blau and Texas Pain — combined their resources to create a regional center of excellence for spine care and pain management under the name Precision Spine Care.

Precision Spine Care now combines under one roof a multi-disciplinary team of specialists:

Expert diagnosis and treatment of back and neck pain

The spine care specialists and pain management physicians at Precision Spine Care currently are referred some of the most complex cases of back pain, neck pain and complex pain problems from across East Texas, Louisiana and Southeast Oklahoma.

The multi-disciplinary team of specialists at Precision Spine Care is able to care for any type of back or neck problem, from the simple back or neck strain all the way to the most complex spine surgery. For pain, the pain management physicians handle complex pain syndromes involving interventional procedures, spinal cord stimulators and narcotics management.

New pharmacy enhances patient convenience

With this merger of the three complementary physician practices, Precision Spine Care has been able to pool their resources to invest in additional services for the convenience of their patients.

For example, in the past, patients would have to drive around town to seek out special compounding pharmacies that can create special pain creams required to treat their specific pain symptoms. Precision Spine Care has a new internal pharmacy that can provide these unique pain creams and prescriptions required before the patient leaves the building. For those in rural East Texas, this is a huge convenience.

New internal lab speeds diagnosis and prescriptions

Similarly, patients needing prescriptions and refills for for their pain medication will benefit from a new internal lab at Precision Spine Care that can perform the necessary urinalysis screens required by state authorities for pain medications before refills can be prescribed. This lab technology speeds the time involved to refilling a patient’s prescription.

We emphasize non-surgical treatment options first

What makes Precision Spine Care different from other spine centers is its nonsurgical approach to back and neck problems.

For instance, many practices that are limited to spine surgeons are naturally biased toward the use of spine surgery. At Precision Spine Care, however, there are two physical medicine MDs who specialize in finding nonsurgical treatment options for many patients.

Under one roof we have the ability to perform X-rays, MRI, injection therapy and EMGs. Because we provide all the necessary diagnostic testing and treatment in one place, we eliminate the need for multiple referrals, delayed care and overall confusion.

If surgery is needed, surgeons use minimally invasive technology

Sometimes however, nonsurgical treatment may fail to resolve pain symptoms, especially for those suffering from herniated discs, spinal fractures, spinal deformities, spinal tumors and scoliosis.

When surgery is the necessary, Precision Spine Care surgeons are proficient in the latest minimally invasive techniques for spine surgery.

We believe in a well informed health care consumer

Precision Spine Care strongly believes in educating patients to make informed decisions about their medical care. As a free community service, Precision Spine Care distributes a free 36-page Home Remedy Book and a 16 page Back to Life Journal that can be a valuable resource to the person with back pain, neck pain or other pain problems.

We have learned from experience that the best way to treat back and neck pain is before it happens, by educating people on ways to lower the risk of a future back pain attack. For pain problems, we try to provide an understanding of symptoms and when a person should seek the care of a specialist to avoid serious complications.

This educational Web site demonstrates our commitment to this goal. We hope you find it helpful and informative.
