Back pain has plagued people since the dawn of time. We have ancient examples of the Egyptians using massage techniques to treat back problems. Interestingly, this is still a valid and accepted treatment for back pain and for spinal conditions. We divide the back into three segments: cervical (neck), thoracic (ribcage), and lumbar (lower back), and the treatments range from taking simple over-the-counter medications all the way through therapy, injections, bracing, as well as prescription medications. Non-invasive spine treatments can lead to surgical interventions if necessary, but generally we encourage patients to try less invasive therapies before resorting to more invasive treatments.
