Ryan McKenna, MD, MBA

Fellowship-trained in Interventional Pain Management

Ryan McKenna, MD, MBA is a fellowship trained interventional pain physician practicing at Precision Spine Care serving the East Texas area. Originally from Midland, TX, a small town in West Texas that has a big history, Dr. McKenna has spent most of his life in different regions of Texas and understands that different parts of our great state have differing health care needs.

Dr. McKenna attended Trinity University in San Antonio followed by graduate education at Texas Tech University in Lubbock Texas. He continued at Texas Tech to attend medical school while concurrently earning an MBA concentrating in Health Organization Management. After graduation, Dr. McKenna completed a surgical internship at University of Colorado followed by an Anesthesiology residency from University of Missouri Columbia. From there, Dr. McKenna moved back to Lubbock to complete a Chronic Pain Management Fellowship at Texas Tech, a distinguished program heavily influenced by Dr. Gabor Racz and Dr. Privthi Raj. Program director Dr. Miles Day taught Dr. McKenna basic and advanced pain management procedures at Texas Tech. Dr. Day is a highly decorated pain physician and is one of the world experts on complex facial, head, and neck pain. Dr. McKenna joined Precision Spine Care in 2017 and worked closely with Dr. Calodney and Dr. Griffith while transitioning to private practice pain medicine.

“I understand that living with and treating chronic pain can be challenging to the patient and the health care team,” said Dr. McKenna. “I believe in a multi-modal approach of physical therapy, psychology, interventional, and medical treatments of chronic pain. However, I also believe in highlighting the importance of functional improvement in tandem with treating pain. This way, there are measures of success that helps to minimize the frustration that can accompany treating chronic pain. In this way, I believe we can help to restore the patient's functional status in a goal directed manner.”
